Stock Perpetuals FAQ

1. Is the price of a Stock Perpetual linked to the stock market?

The price of Stock Perpetual isn't directly associated with the US stock market. Stock Perpetuals on OKX operate as an independent order book with their own index price mechanism. You can view the details by navigating to the relevant token > Overview > Index Components.

2. How does the market behave on OKX during stock market weekend closures?

OKX has established specific mechanisms within its index price and mark price calculation rules to ensure that Stock Perpetuals continue to generate reasonable index and mark prices in accordance with established rules during periods outside traditional financial market trading hours, supporting fair and continuous order book trading. The specific rules are as follows:

  • Index calculation rules: The index calculation rules for Stock Perpetuals are consistent with standard index calculation rules, using multiple price providers as index components to deliver real-time price updates (some component prices may be smoothed using EMA). For detailed rules, refer to: Spot index prices

  • Index bands protection mechanism: OKX will activate the index bands protection mechanism for Stock Perpetual indices. Index prices will be capped within a 10% range of the traditional financial market stock price. During traditional financial market weekend closures, the last available stock price update will be used to anchor the index price. For detailed rules, refer to: OKX to activate the price protection mechanism for the RWA token index

3. Are dividends distributed on Stock Perpetuals on dividend dates?

Currently, Stock Perpetuals don't support dividend distributions.

4. If dividends aren't distributed, will the contract price be reduced by the dividend amount?

No. The dividend ratios and amounts for the Stock Perpetuals currently listed are low relative to the daily price movements of the underlying stocks, so OKX doesn't apply any dividend adjustment to these contracts.

5. If the stock price remains unchanged but a large dividend, stock split, or reverse split occurs, could this trigger a sudden forced liquidation of positions?

The Stock Perpetuals currently listed don't involve large dividends. If a stock split, reverse split, or large dividend does occur, OKX will assess the situation on a case-by-case basis and may settle and delist the affected contracts accordingly. You're advised to check our official OKX announcements.

6. How can I verify the listed Stock Perpetuals, their pricing, and market makers?

Stock Perpetuals are perpetual contract products launched by OKX that track the prices of stocks and related instruments in traditional financial markets. Stock Perpetuals track stock asset prices, allowing you to participate in trading based on price movements without directly holding the underlying stock assets. Stock Perpetuals aren't securities and don't constitute beneficial ownership of any equity or equity-linked instrument. They're financial derivatives whose value is determined based on a reference price. You can also view details by navigating to the relevant token > Overview > Index Components. Stock Perpetuals operate as an independent order book; prices are determined by real trades between OKX users, and your counterparty in all trades is another user on the platform.

7. Has OKX obtained authorization from the corresponding stock companies to list Stock Perpetuals?

The underlying reference for derivative contracts isn't directly pegged to a single company. Instead, they're priced against an index generated from the weighted average of market prices for that stock. You can view the specific index components and price sources in real time under Index Components on each contract's trading page, ensuring full price transparency. For reference, refer to this link
